Prof. Alifano is Deputy Chief of the Thoracic Surgery Department of Paris Center University Hospitals, an academic facility bearing to Assistance Publique –Hôpitaux de Paris, affiliated to Paris Descartes University. The Departement of Thoracic Surgery is a leading center in Thoracic Surgery in France, with approximately 2,000 procedures/year, mainly resection for pleuro-pulmonary or mediastinal malignancies. These procedures are integrated in a multidisciplinary team including thoracic pathologists, chest physicians, thoracic radiologists, thoracic anesthesiologists and ICU physicians as well as medical oncologists. This unique multidisciplinary team is involved in common programs of care, teaching and research. Prof. Alifano’s team developed ERAS since the beginning of current employment in thoracic surgery

Research activity of Prof. Alifano mainly concerns lung cancer with special focus on multimodality management of locally advanced disease and host-tumor interactions. Current research topics involve ultra-personalized approach for prognostic evaluation and development of new therapeutic strategies. Pr Alifano has also a particular interest in pleuro-pulmonary diseases in women, mainly thoracic endometriosis syndrome and pneumothorax. His research has resulted in multiple publications, including prospective clinical trials and of translational researches with to date >165 peer-reviewed publications in top journals of surgery, pneumology, and oncology.

Prof. Alifano serves as a member of national peer-review committees for evaluation of careers and research protocols.

In his laboratory and department, Prof. Alifano has mentored several MDs, and 2 PhDs in thoracic oncology research, as well as several visiting scholars from multiple international institutions.
