N2  - Lobectomies can be performed in case of both malignant and non-malignant lung diseases. Preoperative assessment is fundamental and should always include lung function tests, as the patients should have an adequate pulmonary reserve in order to tolerate the resection. Video-assisted thoracoscopic (VATS) lobectomies are increasingly performed as standard for early stage lung cancer, so the indication for open approaches are evolving and often depends on the surgeon’s experience with VATS techniques. In the paper is described the technique for left sided lobectomies step by step.
